Transport Fever 3 Wiki

Transport Fever 3 Climate Zones

You choose one of four climates when you set up a free game: temperate, dry, tropical or subarctic. It changes how the map looks and which industries appear, and nothing else in the simulation. The industry list is what decides which of your chains can ever be finished.

The chains that decide your climate

Most industries appear everywhere. The ones that do not are the ones to plan around:

  • Paper Mill and Printing Press only exist on subarctic maps, so Books, a commercial-district end product, is subarctic only.
  • Rubber Farm and Tire Factory only exist on tropical maps. The Vehicle Factory needs tires, so the Vehicles cargo, the longest chain in the game, can only be finished in the tropics.
  • Cement Plant appears on tropical and subarctic maps only.
  • Clay Pit and Brick Works appear on temperate and dry maps only, which takes Bricks away from tropical and subarctic players.
  • Brewery is missing from tropical maps, and the Fishing Grounds and Sand Excavator are missing from dry ones.

The climate you pick is a choice about which of the ten end products you can build a business on. If Vehicles or Books is the chain you want to run, the map has to be tropical or subarctic before a single track goes down.

Weather and time of day are separate settings

Climate is fixed per map, but weather and time are yours to change during play. Weather can be dynamic or held at sunny, cloudy or rainy; time can run dynamically, continuously, follow your local clock, or be locked to morning, day, evening or night. None of it touches the economy: the developers describe day and night as a purely visual choice, which is also why the base game has no timetables.
