Does Transport Fever 3 Have Subways?
Not a full one. Transport Fever 3 has underground stations for trams, so you can run a tram line below a city centre, but there is no separate metro system with its own trains and deep-level stations. Heavy-rail trains cannot use tram stations at all.

What you can build
- Underground tram stations, with the tram line running in tunnel beneath the streets
- Tram lanes on roads, shared with or separated from road traffic
- Tram-trains: trams marked Light Rail can cross from tram lanes onto railway track and back
- Railway tunnels and stations for ordinary trains on the surface network
What you cannot
- A dedicated metro or U-Bahn system with its own vehicles
- Heavy-rail trains running on tram track or stopping at tram stations
- Trolleybuses, which were also left out
- Curved stations or pass-through platforms at launch
Building a tram line that goes underground
- 1
Pick a tram that suits the job
Light-rail trams can leave the street and use railway track, which lets one line serve a city centre in tunnel and then run out to a suburb on rails. See the vehicle list for the tram families. - 2
Place the underground tram station
Build it below the busiest part of town, where passengers are densest; every station has a limited catchment, so one deep station does not cover a whole city. - 3
Connect it with tram track in tunnel
Lead the tram lane down into the tunnel on either side of the station and back up to street level where the line continues. - 4
Signal the rail section, not the street section
Road lanes are one-way and use no path reservation, so the street part needs no signals. Where tram-trains share railway track, signal it like any single or double track; the signals guide covers the layouts that avoid deadlocks.
Why this matters for your city
Towns rate you on traffic and noise, and the traffic and noise layers show where a street-level tram line is part of the problem. Taking that stretch underground is one way to work on the authority rating that decides how fast the town grows. The town growth page explains how the six ratings combine.
Will mods add a metro?
Mods are hosted on the in-game hub for every platform, and the modding manual was published on launch day. Whether someone builds a full metro on top of it is up to the community. Keep an eye on the mods page for how to install what appears.
